Hugo

Hugo is an awesome senior English Bulldog! He is calm, loves people, gets along with other dogs (cats unknown), and just wants to relax with his people and enjoy his senior years. He will love to follow you around the house and will enjoy pats and belly rubs for what seems like hours. He is neutered and up to date on vaccines. We don’t think he came to the rescue being crate trained, but he has responded very well to the crate and has stopped ‘complaining’ and will go in and sleep. However, he still needs to be “ushered” in. As far as house-broken, he knows to go outside to do his business in the designated dog area but sometimes there are a few accidents in the house. Surprisingly, Hugo does like to go on walks! He moves at a good pace for an older guy, but enjoys being outside and moving. We think he is slowly building back a little strength after being neglected. He is old (the shelter put him at around 6 to 8), moves slow, and does not hear well with his left ear. We working to reduce the swelling that has been the result of years of untreated ear infections and poor ear hygiene. He has been on antibiotics to treat his ears.  He has been for dental surgery to extract some problematic teeth most likely caused by what the vet said could be from chewing on metal bars. He has completely healed from his surgery. The fly strikes on his ears, from being kept outside, have also healed. His front paws are also currently being treated with over the counter ointment from the same neglect.  Hugo will require a certain amount of daily maintenance on his paws.  He has deep pockets between his toes so dirt can get trapped in there and needs to be cleaned to keep them healthy and trouble free.  His ears will also require frequent cleaning.  Otherwise, Hugo is a great senior dog who would be the perfect companion to a person or family who is interested in sharing their home with a super-friendly, once-neglected, dog giving him a chance to be loved and live out his golden years in comfort.
